Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. |
A Comment from Pastor Tooman
We believe what the Bible says. We also believe that there is a correct way to read the Bible. To read the Bible correctly you must read it with the perspective and bias of the writers. This takes hard work and requires the study of Hebrew, Aramaic and Koine Greek. It also requires an understanding of the culture and history of Israel and the church. Not everyone has the vocational priorities that allow this kind of study. So there are places where you can go for help. If you want to know how to read the Bible correctly, and know what Immanuel Lutheran Church confesses, you should start with the Apostles' Creed and then read the Small Catechism written by Martin Luther. Luther did the required work to properly read the Bible. Martin Luther did not do this independently. He accessed the writings of the church fathers and interacted with other contemporary Biblical scholars. Additionally, Lutheran pastors and theologians, who also have applied a great deal of time and energy in reading the Bible, affirm and confess the Small Catechism. If you have any questions about reading the Bible I encourage you to find an LCMS church and talk to the Pastor. He will help you know Jesus, who is revealed to us in scripture.
